Location versus Relocation

 Location versus Relocation

There are a couple recent examples of executive search assignments where Career Solutions was able to source and recruit candidates that provided big win-wins for candidate and employer.

In our search plan, we try to eliminate the employer’s need to relocate a candidate.  Restricting the geography of the candidate pool can seriously limit the number well qualified candidates.

But sometimes, there is well qualified talent looking to change their lifestyle.  In both examples, the candidates were probably so busy due their their professional obligations that the only way to identify them as candidates would be through a search firm.

Career Solutions was retained for an executive search assignment for a Vice President of Lending for a growing credit union.  This credit union had recently completed the acquisition of two smaller credit unions and had grown its membership base significantly.  And in the growth of financial institutions, it was approaching $1 billion in assets which is a “talent shift” point for a bank or credit union.  (Financial Center First CU - https://www.fcfcu.com/community/news-releases).

Through a regional search for this credit union, we identified over 100 potential candidates.  But as it turned out, the best qualified candidate was living 20 minutes from the credit union headquarters but commuting over an hour one-way to a bank every day!

We were able to negotiate the new VP of Lending’s move from the larger bank to growing credit union.  Our client credit union believes they have added a “super star” to their senior executive team.  And the candidate, VP Lending is so happy to be sleeping in a little more and home with family in the evenings.   Definitely a win-win!

The other examples of this that I’ll relate are not recent.  Career Solutions has been finding these win-wins for over 30 years!

I will tag our old blog here too to connect a story about the Minnesota Rubber Company (https://www.mnrubber.com/news-press-releases/) in Minneapolis and also Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) in New Berlin, WI (https://new.abb.com/service/abb-university/united-states/drives/us-training/new-berlin-wi-training-center).  In both cases, an Indianapolis executive search firm found top quality candidates - literally down the street from these employers.  This was “pre-internet age” so involving some old school candidate identification techniques that we still use today:
